Newly elected KNCCI leaders barred from assuming office
A commercial court has issued a restraining order against the newly elected leaders of KNCCI Dr Eric Rutto(president) and Mustapha Ramadhan(deputy) from assuming their respective positions.
The court's decision came after reviewing the application filed by Hassan Wario, the applicant in the case.
Wario had sued the chairman and the independent electoral board of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry alleging that the elections were marred with irregularities.
The order issued by the court on June 19 temporarily stops their ascending in leadership pending further directions.
" A temporary injunction is issued restraining the third defendant from engaging in any activities related to the filed returns. The injunction explicitly prohibits the third defendant, as well as their agents, employees, servants, or any other individuals acting on their behalf, from dealing with filing, registering, presenting for registration, or applying for registration based on the returns filed by the first defendant," the order reads.
The court further directed that the application be served to the parties, who will respond within 14 days.
The court will give directions on July 3. BY THE STAR
