We'll continue to push for marijuana legalisation - Roots party

Roots party spokesperson Jaymo Ule Msee has said that they will continue to push for the legalization of Marijuana whether they control the government or not.

Speaking on Wednesday, Jaymo said that the party will push the agenda on their manifesto ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We will do a lot of sharing and lobbying, we will be pushing for the legalization of marijuana whether we control the government or not, that is an agenda that has to continue going forward,” he said in an interview with Spice FM.

Jaymo revealed that before the elections, the party had met Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials to deliberate how Kenyans can get licenses for snake farming.

He added that the agenda will help liberate the country.

Jaymo said that in the five years leading to the next elections they will be well prepared.

“We were not organized as the other parties because they had senior people in government supporting them. We also did not have many aspirants for the parliamentary seats and other government positions,” he said.

Jaymo added that the party had learned that people are open and willing to listen to interesting new ideas however funny they sound.

“Many people became interested in the campaign because of how the Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah and his deputy candidate Justina Wamae were articulating the agenda for legalization of marijuana for industrial use,” he said.

While commenting on the disagreements between Wajackoyah and Wamae, Jaymo said it was normal to have internal issues in a party.

“As you have seen in our campaigns, we have very strong leaders and it is just a difference of opinions on certain issues and how things should be done. That has been witnessed at parties across the world. The matter will be resolved very soon and we will be back to normal," he said.

Earlier, the Roots party had summoned Wamae for disciplinary action over utterances she made about the recently concluded general elections.

Wamae, however, said she will not respond to pettiness.     BY THE STAR
