Chepkoech Dismisses Marriage Trouble Claims

World 3000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech has denied claims her marriage is on the rocks following public speculation.

The reigning world champion and her husband Peter Mwai Ndichu reaffirmed their commitment to each other a day after a series of social media posts suggested they had marital problems.

Chepkoech said an account under her name on Facebook did not actually belong to her after posts published on the platform claimed she was enduring marital trouble.

Her decision to skip the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon as well as her dip in form has sparked some scrutiny.

"It’s not true, someone started posting it on social media after I indicated that I would not participate in the World Championship games," Chepkoech said, adding her husband has had to previously confront such false claims.

"I wonder why people are wishing bad things to me. In fact, as we speak I'm happy with my family at home with my hubby watching the Championships in Oregon."

She said her decision to opt out of the global showpiece had been a personal decision and had been communicated to Athletics Kenya (AK) way in advance.

The 31-year-old broke the 3,000 meters steeplechase four years ago in Monaco when she won with a time of eight minutes 44.32 seconds.   BY CITIZEN DIGITAL
