Ruto has no regard for Mt Kenya, Uhuru allies say on Kiraitu attack

The Jubilee Party leadership now claims Deputy President William Ruto has zero regard for Mt Kenya leaders, including his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto has in the last few weeks rebuked key Uhuru allies, especially governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and James Nyoro (Kiambu) for rallying the region behind ODM boss Raila Odinga.

In a statement to newsrooms, the Mt Kenya Jubilee Parliamentary Caucus said the attacks have laid bare Ruto's utter contempt for the region.

“The mischief began when the Deputy President referred to his boss and the President of the Republic of Kenya HE Uhuru Kenyatta as "tapeli". He then viciously attacked Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, contemptuously telling him off for contributing too little before unceremoniously kicking him out of the podium,” the caucus said.

“The DP then trained his guns on Nyoro. To show that his disdain is for all Mt Kenya leaders, he then aimed his textbook insults at Kiraitu.”

The caucus chaired by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu also said Ruto has sidelined and treated with contempt Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri.

But campaigning in Meru on Tuesday, Ruto’s allies heaped praises on Agriculture CS Peter Munya in what was seen as a political strategy.

Munya also supports Raila.

Fearing a backlash from Munya's Nyambene backyard, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua described Munya as a performer and firm leader.

He asked Munya to join Ruto's camp.

Ruto visited Mikinduri, Maua, Kiengu, Antubetwe, Mutuati, Larre, Kangeta, Mailitatu, Muthara and Kianjai in his second day campaign tour of Meru to consolidate votes after Raila’s last month’s forays in the region.

Ruto took issue with Uhuru’s handshake with Raila saying his boss is betraying the eight million Kenyans who voted for Jubilee in 2013 and 2017.

“When he was seeking someone to stand behind him and deliver votes, was the Kitendawili (Raila) or Kalonzo Musyoka or Gideon Moi or Mudavadi Musalia available. We fought against tribalism and hatred. We campaigned in 2013 and 2017 and 8 million Kenyans believed in us. Why does he think there is no capable leader within the 8 million Kenyans to carry on the mantle and the government agenda so he brings in strangers? Is this not betrayal of the highest order?” Ruto posed.

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, MPs Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira) Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Kathuri Murungi (Imenti South), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri) and John Mutunga (Tigania West) told Meru residents they stand to benefit more in Ruto’s Presidency than any other Presidential aspirant in the country.

However, there was booing and heckling of some leaders who accompanied Ruto in his rallies.

Mutunga was forced to cut short his speech when he rose to speak at Mikinduri and started to introduce the MP Gichunge Kabeabea in absentia.

Kiraitu’s roads executive who is vying for Igembe North had a hard time addressing the crowds at Antubetwe Kiongo in the constituency.

Ruto ruled out creation of more posts of premier and deputy premier noting that BBI was not meant to uplift the common Mwananchi.

Several leaders have condemned Ruto’s sentiment including Meru PWDs chairman Mike Makarina, MCA aspirant Titus Mutugi among others where he had said people are enlightened and do not need to be imposed a leader they do not wish to support.

“If you see my friend Kiraitu, tell him we have brains and to stop nonsense,” Ruto said at Nkubu yesterday.

Ruto thanked Meru people for voting Jubilee government overwhelmingly.

He urged Meru people to vote for all UDA candidates from MCA, MP, Woman Rep, senator and governor.

He highlighted that his bottom up economic model will aid revival of the economy, implement Big 4 agenda and create jobs for youths.

Ruto said his blue print economic model will prioritise waving high interest rates charged to loan defaulters, adding that about 14 million Kenyans have been blacklisted by CRB.

“Next year, by God’s grace, we will implement every agenda left out in Jubilee’s administration. Our first priority in the Bottom Up budget, we will allocate Sh100 billion for creation of jobs for our youths."

"We will allocate Sh50 billion for micro-small and medium enterprise to save Kenyans without title deeds or security get reduced interest loans and another Sh100 billion for agri-processing, value addition and housing in steps for revival of the economy. Kenya can’t change to developed country without steady rise of agricultural products prices thus reducing high standards of living,” Ruto said.

He said his administration will ensure smallholder miraa farmers get financial aid through cooperatives  capital.   BY THE STAR
