Night of drama as patrons attack cops during raid at SEBS bar in Nakuru, 86 arrested

Police officers in Nakuru have arrested 86 revelers who were partying in reckless abandon during the wee hours on Saturday morning.

Those arrested were part of more than 500 patrons who were busted at the SEBS bar in Nakuru town around 12.30am.

Police officers were embroiled in a four-hour standoff with the erratic patrons who stood their ground, attacking the cops with beer bottles.

Overwhelmed by the crowd, police officers lobbed teargas at them: scores seized the moment and escaped through the windows on the first floor before fleeing the scene.

At the end of the raid, 86 people were arrested and carted off to various police stations within the city.

A police report seen by Citizen Digital published the name of the 86 saying they were arrested for contravening the COVID-19 protocols.

They will be arraigned in court on Monday with police officers saying the bar’s license will be cancelled.

The latest comes just days after the government announced stricter measures to aver the spread of the coronavirus which has killed more than 1,000 in Kenya and devastated the economy.

Kenyans are now required to wear masks at all times when they are in public, maintain social distance and observe the daily 10pm to 4am curfew.

Those found contravening the guidelines risk an instant fine of Ksh.20,000.
