Standoff as embattled Nairobi Clerk Ngwele goes back to office

Standoff at the Assembly./MAUREEN KINYANJUI

A standoff is looming at the County Assembly of Nairobi following the return of Jacob Ngwele to the office of the clerk.

Ngwele has been out of the assembly for nine months following wrangles between him and Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

He was escorted to his office in the morning hours with a section of ODM MCAs who were later joined by their counterparts from Jubilee.

What followed was a section of assembly staff selectively being ordered out of the assembly.

Heavy police presence is being witnessed in the assembly.

At the moment both Speaker Elachi and Ngwele are currently holding separate press briefing .

Elachi and Ngwele have been involved in protracted dispute that began after their fallout in early 2018
