Officers at the Kamworon Administration Police Post in Aldai, Nandi County were in for a rude shock on Tuesday night after they left their armoury unattended to just watch UEFA Champions League football.
The officers must have been dealt a triple blow given that teams that Kenyans usually support, Manchester United and Juventus, were eliminated from the popular competition.
When they went back to the police station they found that the armoury had been broken into and three G3 rifles, each loaded with 20 bullets, stolen.
The police officers had travelled 4km from their station to the Chepturo trading centre near Kaimosi Teachers College to watch the Champions League quarter final matches pitting Barcelona against Manchester United and Juventus against Ajax.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have been dispatched to the station to interrogate the culprits.
Nandi County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti said they have mounted a search to recover the stolen weapons.
