Fuel prices rise as ERC announces latest review

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has increased the prices of  super petrol, diesel and kerosene in the latest review announced on Sunday, April 14.
In the review, which will be in force from April 15 to May 14, the price of super petrol will go up by Ksh.5.25, diesel by Ksh.5.52 and kerosene by Ksh.2.76 in Nairobi.
The pump prices are inclusive of 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018.
“The changes in this month’s prices have been as a consequence of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increasing by 9.14%from US$ 568.55 per ton in February 2019 to US$ 620.54 per ton in March 2019; Diesel increasing by 11.19% from US$ 561.64 per ton to US$ 624.51 per ton and Kerosene increasing by 1.88% from US$ 650.29 per ton to US$ 662.55 per ton,” said ERC.
Retail prices for all three petroleum products rose during ERC’s last review on March 14, 2019 by an average of Ksh.1.26 for super petrol, 65 cents for diesel and Ksh.2.96 for kerosene.
A liter of super petrol in Nairobi at the moment retails at Ksh.101.35 with a liter of diesel trading at Ksh.96.61.
Meanwhile kerosene is trading at a higher price than diesel for the first time at Ksh.99.46 for every litre.
