Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba has announced he has been fired by Chairman Wafula Chebukati. Chiloba who had been suspended from the electoral agency to pave way for an audit to trace misappropriation of funds in the 2017 General Election said Chebukati maliciously kicked him out of the commission.Chiloba, however, decried reasons raised by the chairman in sacking him, citing malice. According to him, the letter stated he had twice snubbed disciplinary committee summons hence warranting his unconditional dismissal despite him informing the commission he was attending classes at the University of Oxford.
The former CEO alleged the commissioners unprocedurally voted to send him on compulsory leave to find space to stage manage the audit in their favour without considering his response which was against standard procedures. He wondered why the commission framed issues raised in the internal audit as disciplinary issues leading to a show cause letter.
Chiloba decried the three commissioners who conspired to deny him an opportunity to defend himself and suspended him were the same people sitting in the disciplinary committee.
