Man mistaken for Waziri Chacha speaks out
said he received the news that his photo was trending online from a member of a church he attends.
Mr Wanjii, who is the chairperson of a men’s group and the youth secretary at his church, says he has been distressed since the photo started trending online. He was overwhelmed by calls from family members and friends who wanted to get first-hand information from him about the allegations.
“Some of my relatives condemned and accused me of embarrassing the family members who are God-fearing,” he said.
Some of his friends and former classmates mocked him and asked him to share with them the money he had, Mr Wanjii said.
'BEN TEN'
At times, he said, he would lock himself in his house for the whole day as people would stare at him wherever he went. He was called ‘Chacha wa Murang’a’ and others labelled him ‘Ben Ten’ – code for toy boy.
As if that was not enough, a false narrative was widespread that The Woman Rep had opened him the shop he operates and people avoided it.
When he couldn’t take the false accusations anymore, Mr Wanjii went to Murang’a Police Station to clear the air.
At the police station, he did not find any relief.
He was told off and warned that if investigations link him to the scam he will be arrested.
“I was so depressed and did not know what to do, I just went back to my house,” he said.
LOVE
The controversy has cost him his fiancé who has since gone silent on him.
“Even after the arrest of Mr Chacha she has not responded to my text messages and calls,” Mr Wanjii said.
Wanjii said he is contemplating to sue Cyprian Nyakundi, a blogger, whom he claims has continued to defame him even after the man in question was been arrested and charged in court.
