Eric Dane’s Final Message to Daughters Before Death Breaks Hearts

Hollywood is mourning the loss of Eric Dane, the beloved actor known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, who died Thursday at the age of 53 after a year‑long battle with ALS. Billie Beatrice Dane, Eric Dane and Georgia Geraldine Dane attend the Los Angeles Premiere of Columbia Pictures ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die.’ While tributes pour in from colleagues and fans worldwide, it is his final words to his daughters, Billie and Georgia, that have left hearts shattered. According to a statement from his family, Dane spent his last days surrounded by loved ones, ensuring that his daughters felt the depth of his devotion.  His final message was not one of sorrow, but of enduring love and encouragement. Famous Last Words was released after his death by Netflix. “Its a weird concept to kind of grapple with,” he said about the message. The actor noted that he felt sorry for his wife and daughters, but never for himself. “This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit,” he added.

Dane noted that by the time people were watching the video, he would never have fallen in love with another woman the way he had with the mother of his children, Rebecca Gayheart. “I will never, by the time anybody sees this, have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca.” To his daughters, he noted that he tried to fight and be with them, and they should always keep that in mind. He also offered his daughter’s life advice that many people have resonated with. “Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we? I see you playing in the ocean for hours, my water babies. Those days, pun intended, were heaven,” he said. ‘I want to tell you four things I’ve learned from this disease, and I hope you don’t just listen to me. I hope you’ll hear me. He asked them to live in the present and cherish every moment. “Live now. For years, I have been wandering around mentally and lost in my head for long chunks of time, wallowing and worrying in self-pity, shame, and doubt. No more. Out of pure survival, I am forced to stay in the present. But I don’t want to be anywhere else. The past contains regrets. The future remains unknown. So you have to live now. The present is all you have. Treasure it. Cherish every moment,” he said.

The actor asked his daughters to fall in love not just with someone but with something they are passionate about. “Fall in love, not necessarily with a person, although I do recommend that as well, but fall in love with something. Find your passion, your joy. Find the thing that makes you want to get up in the morning. Drives you through the entire day. I fell in love for the first time by the time I was your age. I fell in love with acting. That love eventually got me through my darkest hours, my darkest days, my darkest year. Find something that excites you. Find your path, your purpose, your dream. Then go for it. Really go for it,” he said. Dane urged his daughters to choose their friends wisely and fight hard even when they face adversity or health challenges. “Choose your friends wisely. Fight with every ounce of your being, and with dignity. When you face challenges, health or otherwise, fight. Never give up. Fight until your last breath. This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit,” he added.
