Governor Bii tells his rivals in Uasin Gishu not to waste their money campaigning to oust him ahead of next year’s polls

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has told his rivals not to waste their money campaigning to unseat him in the next general election.

The governor insisted it would be impossible to deny him a second term in office.

Bii said his performance record would easily convince residents to re-elect him. He warned those eyeing his seat against risking their resources on what he described as a futile mission.

“They should use their money wisely instead of engaging in an impossible mission to campaign against me. As of now, this county is locked until I complete my two terms in office,” Bii said.

The governor also cautioned some members of his staff, whom he claimed were part of a “one-term” brigade campaigning against him within the county administration.

“Let those workers talking of one term for me know that I will not work with people who are bent on sabotaging me. I am watching them, and no one should complain when I decide to act,” he said.

The governor was speaking during the swearing-in of new members of the Eldoret City Board, who will oversee the city’s affairs.

Those sworn in were Edward Sawe, Sammy Bor, David Maiz, Ruth Limo, Hilda Kibet, Titus Yego, Engineer David Nyolmo, Edith Koske, Daniel Mburu Kamau, Alice Kositany and Elzeba Busienei, who will serve as secretary to the board.

He urged the members to assume office immediately and prioritise restoring cleanliness in the city.

He noted that Eldoret faces several challenges that must be addressed to create a conducive environment capable of attracting more investors.

The newly sworn-in members are expected to elect a chairperson at their first meeting.

Bii’s remarks on his intention to serve two terms come amid heightened political manoeuvring by rivals seeking the Uasin Gishu governor post.

Among those mentioned as eyeing the seat are billionaire businessman Hezekiah Bundotich Kiprop Buzeki and Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, among others.

The governor maintained he would easily defeat his challengers. He argued that his achievements across the county are visible and that he has worked closely with residents.

In recent months, two rival political camps have emerged in the county. They have openly schemed against each other and displayed rivalry at public gatherings.

Bii is aligned with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi. The opposing faction is associated with Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and several MPs from the county.

Sudi has on several occasions declared at public meetings that residents will have a choice between what he describes as “Team A”, which he says is focused on work, and “Team B”, which he accuses of engaging in empty rhetoric and propaganda.
