Chebet praises Tigoni Family Trail Run as Lusike wins 10km race

World and Olympic 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet has praised the Tigoni Family Trail Run for promoting unity, fitness and fun beyond competition.

“I am happy to be here at the Tigoni Family Trail Run to inspire people to run together and show that running outside competition can still be enjoyable. It is great to see how many people are inspired and enjoying the run,” Chebet said after gracing the colourful event held in Tigoni.

The race, organised under a partnership between Woodland Star International School and Brackenhurst Conference Centre, attracted more than 500 participants, including children, parents, school staff and members of the public.

Limuru night guard Lusike stole the spotlight in the 10-kilometre race, clocking 1:30.07. An emotional Lusike thanked the organisers for allowing him to compete despite missing the registration deadline, noting that financial challenges have slowed his athletic development.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity. Even though this is mainly a fun race, I am delighted to participate,” said Lusike.

The event featured several categories, starting with the 21-kilometre race, followed by the 10km, 5km and a 2.5km family-friendly run and walk, all staged under ideal Sunday morning weather conditions.

Chebet also highlighted the unifying power of athletics. “Running brings families together and unites people. I want to thank Woodland Star International School for the invitation. I am very grateful,” she said.

Woodland Star International School director Abel Mutiso, a former middle-distance runner and head of the event, described the Tigoni Family Trail Run — also known as the Colour Run — as one of the most enjoyable races in the country.

“The event blends running and nature, and we sprinkle seven different colours on participants as they run so that they finish the race covered in many colours. These colours represent different nationalities and cultures across the world,” said Mutiso, who also thanked Chebet for honouring the event.
