Junet dismisses ODM division claims, says party is united

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has dismissed claims of divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), insisting that the party remains united.

Via a tweet on Tuesday, Junet said the party is structured and firmly under the leadership of Oburu Odinga.

Junet said there is only one ODM party, describing it as indivisible and guided by properly constituted and functional party organs.

“There is only one ODM Party, indivisible, and it is led by our Party Leader, Oburu Odinga,” Junet said.

He emphasised that ODM allows space for internal debate, noting that members are free to express divergent views and attempt to persuade others within the party framework.

“The ODM Party is well structured, with properly functioning organs. We allow robust internal debate on a wide range of issues, and every member is free to hold and air their opinions,” he said.

However, Junet stressed that once party organs make a decision, unity and discipline are non-negotiable.

“Once the relevant party organs have settled on a position, our party base expects that we all fall in line. That is what loyalty, fidelity, and faithfulness mean,” he added.

He further dismissed speculation of an internal collapse, saying the party was stable and focused.

“There is no implosion in ODM, and there will be none,” Junet said.

Junet said continued attempts to portray ODM as fractured were misguided.

He concluded by affirming the party’s readiness for upcoming political engagements.

“Linda Ground. Tuko tayari,” Junet said.

On Thursday,  ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga said that the party intends to negotiate for a structured power-sharing arrangement in the next government.

The party leader argued that the party must be properly represented to drive development and influence national priorities.

Oburu added that ODM would seek a stronger stake in the next administration, saying the party must not settle for symbolic inclusion without meaningful authority.

“ODM’s current participation in the broad-based government arrangement has provided limited space. We entered the government through the window, but for the upcoming government, we shall enter the government through the door,” Oburu said.

“We shall negotiate and ensure we get the strength more than we have in the Broad-Based. The broad-based arrangement is for a short time, but we want more developments in the coming times.”
