2-year-old boy dies after being kicked by a donkey in Nyando, Kisumu County

A two-year-old boy has died after being kicked by a donkey in East Kano’s Olasi village, Nyando, Kisumu County.

According to police, the incident occurred at the child’s grandfather’s homestead when the boy passed near the animal.

He reportedly sustained injuries to the chest and died while being taken to a local hospital.

The family later returned the body home as they mourned the loss. Police have been informed and assisted in moving the body to the mortuary while investigations continue.

In a separate incident, a 38-year-old Ugandan national, identified as John Ingunze, died following an altercation with another man in Yala, Siaya County.

Police reported that the two men argued over a woman before Ingunze was struck on the head with a piece of wood at Anyiko Market.

He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

The alleged assailant fled the scene, and investigations are ongoing.

Elsewhere, in Ekerenyo, Nyamira County, a 41-year-old man, Victor Osoro, was found dead on a footpath after being attacked by a mob.

Authorities said he was accused of theft, and the incident is under police investigation pending an autopsy.

Meanwhile, 16 people lost their lives in separate road accidents across the country on New Year’s Day.

The victims included eight pedestrians, six motorcyclists, a passenger, and a pillion rider.

The accidents also left 33 people seriously injured, including passengers, riders, and pillion passengers, who are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

Authorities have emphasised ongoing efforts to address road safety and reduce such incidents.
