Harlequins rope in former KCB coach Mang’eni to boost forwards

Kenya Harlequins have bolstered their technical bench by bringing on board former KCB RFC coach Oliver Mang’eni as they push for a top-six finish in the 2025–2026 Kenya Cup season.

Mang’eni joins Quins as the forwards’ coach, filling the vacancy left by Malik Ndemi, who recently took up the head coach role at Impala Saracens.

Head coach Patrice Agunda believes the former towering lock will add immense value to the squad. “He brings a wealth of experience to the technical bench, especially in the line-out,” said Agunda.

“He has been part of a winning KCB team that lifted several Kenya Cup titles, among other major honours,” Agunda added that Mang’eni’s presence will help instil a winning culture at the club.

“He brings a winning mentality, and we are delighted to have him on board. We also share the same philosophy that rugby must be played in a way that best suits the team,” he noted.

Harlequins currently sit sixth on the Kenya Cup standings and face a demanding run of fixtures against Nondescripts, Kabras Sugar and Menengai Oilers in January.

Agunda believes Mang’eni’s tactical insight will be crucial. “Next month, we are playing the top sides in the division, most of whom are very forward-oriented. I believe Mang’eni’s input will be vital,” he said.

Agunda revealed the technical team plans to tweak its tactics to maximise output from the players. “The season has started well. We need to build momentum from the two wins we’ve had and innovate our set plays and attacking moves to secure more victories in the new year,” he added.

On his part, Mang’eni expressed excitement about working with a young and ambitious squad.
