My name is James, originally from Masaka but working in Dubai for the last four years. Like many Ugandans working abroad, my main goal was to support my family and build a better future. I trusted my wife completely, and every month I sent money home for rent, school fees, and general upkeep. Even when work became difficult, I pushed on because I believed I had a faithful partner waiting for me back home.
For some time, however, I started feeling uneasy. My wife’s communication changed. She no longer picked my calls at night, and her excuses became strange. Sometimes she claimed her phone battery had died, or that she slept early. My younger brother, who lived not far from our home, also became distant and avoided my messages. At first, I ignored the signs, thinking maybe I was overthinking because of stress from work. But deep inside, something felt wrong.
