Content creator and comedian Massage by Steve has clarified that he has never owned a car, despite a viral video earlier this year in which he flaunted what appeared to be a brand-new Lexus.
Speaking during a candid conversation on Emos Njoroge’s podcast, Steve opened up about the misconceptions and the pressures that pushed him into “looking like he had made it.”
Steve explained that he has never had his own vehicle.
“I have never owned a car. Kama ushainiona na gari, ni ya rafiki ama ya showroom. Kukopakopa hapa kufake life,” he said, admitting that many of those moments happened when he was battling depression. “Depression unajaribu ku-prove niko sawa but niko depressed,” he added.

The clarifications come shortly after he posted a video early this year showcasing a luxurious car . In the clip, Steve is dressed in a sharp brown suit, popping champagne by the roadside and giving viewers a full tour of the vehicle’s luxurious interior. He captioned it with:
“Andika hapo, ni God manze.”
The celebratory video sparked fresh debate online, with many questioning whether the car was truly his—prompting his public explanation.
When asked about it, he clarified:
“Nikisema ilikua ya mumama nitakuwa wrong because ni mtu tu alikua amenipea kazi polite. Akanichocha tu akanipea gari niue, na nikaua ikapata KSh 2.5 million safi.”
He revealed that although he had access to the car, it remained parked most of the time.
“There’s no one time ungeniuliza gari iko juu—ilikuanga tu kwa parking. For the moment I had access to it, I enjoyed… until now I stopped working for that particular company.”
