According to reports, Raila collapsed during his morning walk abroad, sending shockwaves across Kenya and the African continent.

A Family Bond Beyond Politics

In her heartfelt Instagram post, the Black Panther star reflected on the long-standing friendship between her father, Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, and the late opposition leader.

She described Raila not just as a national hero, but as “one of my father’s dearest friends” who became part of their extended family.

I join Kenyans in mourning the passing of the great Hon. Raila Odinga. I knew him from up close as one of my father’s dearest friends, and also as a hero to the nation,” Lupita wrote.

She went on to recall how Raila was present for her family’s key milestones, offering support both in moments of joy and in times of sorrow.

“He was there for my dad and for our family in our moments of celebration and of grief. He shared our family’s milestones, and we shared his,” she added.

Lupita also shared a touching photo showing Raila and her father engaged in deep conversation during a past public event. The image captured the warmth and respect that defined their decades-long relationship.
