Getrude Mungai, the prominent Kenyan lifestyle designer and relationships coach, offered a rare glimpse into her world during a candid quickfire session with Kalondu Musyimi.

Two Decades of Commitment

Mungai proudly revealed that she has been married for a remarkable 27 years. For her, the longevity of the relationship is rooted in constant connection.

When asked who she communicates with most, her answer was immediate: her husband. This simple habit is central to her relationship philosophy.

“The most common mistake people make is assuming that the other person knows what you want.”

To avoid that pitfall, she has one ironclad rule: honesty. “I never break it,” she said firmly.

Life Off-Camera

Away from advising couples, Mungai shared a few personal facts about her routine and preferences:

Marathon Schedule: She keeps late hours, waking up at 8 am but not getting to bed until well past midnight.

Dream Ride: Standing at 5’2”, she jokingly noted her small stature doesn’t stop her from dreaming big—her ultimate dream car is a Lamborghini.

In the Kitchen: She names fish and hya as her favourite meal, though she proudly claims her pilau is the best she cooks.

Education: While Biology was her favourite subject in school, Physics left her unimpressed.

Keeping it Real on Finance

The lifestyle guru kept it refreshingly transparent when discussing money.

When asked about her M-PESA balance, she casually revealed Ksh 71,000, amusing viewers with her openness.

She also reflected on her humble beginnings: her first job was simply “mama,” for which she earned a tiny first paycheck of just Ksh 50.

The quickfire session not only humanised the expert but also confirmed her status as a grounded and honest public figure.

Getrude continues to prove that she is as candid about her love life as she is about her bank balance.
