Kate Actress has spoken candidly about her views on marriage, just days after her ex-husband, film director Phil Karanja, unveiled his new partner.
Phil, who had remained single since their separation, recently soft-launched his relationship, sparking chatter online.
The buzz intensified when it emerged that his partner had once worked as an actress under Kate, a detail that left Kenyans divided.
Amid the speculation, Kate shared a light-hearted video on social media, dancing to Chris Brown and Bryson Tiller’s viral hit It Depends.
Filmed in front of a striking white mansion, she was joined by a male colleague attempting to keep up with her moves.
Fans praised her energy, admired the lavish backdrop and applauded her carefree spirit. One impressed follower, @Chela, asked: “What can’t you do??”
Kate’s response was playful but revealing: “Ndoa babes (Just marriage babes).” The remark hinted at her decision not to pursue marriage again, a personal resolution that resonated widely.
Her comment quickly went viral, with thousands of reactions pouring in. Some fans celebrated her confidence, while others related to her stance.

Phil’s Reflections on Divorce
Kate’s light-hearted admission came as Phil’s own reflections on their marriage resurfaced. In a January 2025 interview with Cleaning The Airwaves (CTA), the filmmaker revealed that he refused to assign blame for their divorce.
“Divorce took me to a place of looking inward and understanding where I went wrong, where I fell short,” he said. “Never ever go on a blame game. In that period, I talked to men and women who have gone through the same.”
He explained that listening to other divorcees, some still bitter years later, inspired him to take a different path.
“I remember telling myself, five years from now I do not want to be this bitter at my ex-wife. I’m not going to channel my anger and blame on her. If you call yourself for a meeting, you realise you messed up somewhere.”
A Joint Statement and a New Path
The former couple had publicly announced their split in September 2023 through a joint statement, asking for privacy for the sake of their children.
“We came to a conclusion to end our marriage a long while ago and are separated. We sincerely request everyone to honour our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” they shared.
Phil later clarified that while their marriage had ended, their bond as friends, co-parents and business partners remained intact.
“Hii ni mambo ya watu wawili but allow us to add you to the group chat kidogo so we can proceed with our lives bila story mob,” he said.
Now, with both stars charting new paths, Kate’s decision to rule out marriage and Phil’s vow to let go of bitterness mark a turning point in their post-divorce journeys.
