Political statements are being sent from Mt Kenya East, where the country’s senior political leaders have gathered for a high-profile church event.  Former president Uhuru Kenyatta, his successor William Ruto, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and his successor Kithure Kindiki were part of the attendees of Bishop Peter Kimani’s consecration at the University of Embu grounds.

How Embu residents expressed affection to Uhuru Kimani was being ordained to steward the Catholic Diocese of Embu.  The function officially started with Archbishop Anthony Muheria, who recognised the leaders present at the fete. The silence was loud all through, as Muheria appreciated the leaders’ attendance until Uhuru’s name was mentioned. The crowd erupted in loud cheers and ululations, overpowering Muheria’s speech. The bishop intervened, reminding the excited audience that “we are in church.”
