I’m not after revenge, it’s about saving Kenya – Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that his political stance is driven by revenge against President William Ruto.

Speaking on Tuesday, Gachagua said his push for reforms is about good governance and not a personal vendetta.

He maintained that his fight is focused on ending injustices, corruption, and ensuring Kenyans have access to basic services.

“I don’t think stopping abductions, saying no to extrajudicial killings, is revenge. It is humanity. Stopping corruption is not revenge; it’s morality. I am not interested in any revenge. I am interested in good governance, having a country that is working, a happy population,” he said on Citizen TV.

Gachagua insisted that his only interest is to see a country where hospitals are stocked with drugs and children can access education.

He said his call for Ruto to leave office is a necessity and not a personal grudge, adding that he is the only courageous person who can do that.

“All I am saying is for that to happen, this man has to exit. It’s not revenge, it’s necessity. I am not a vengeful person, and I have nothing personal against William Ruto,” Gachagua stated.

He further said he is standing up for Kenyans despite facing humiliation, persecution, and attacks.

The former DP noted that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is compromised because of his working agreement with Ruto and that Parliament, whose role is to oversight the executive, is captured.

“Somebody must do it. Raila was compromised, Parliament and Senate have been captured. Someone has to stand up and say no,” he added.

Gachagua further announced his bid for the presidency in the 2027 general elections, insisting that he has all the qualifications.

“I am a candidate to be president of the Republic of Kenya. I am qualified, and I have support. I am looking for more support, and I will be on the ballot as a candidate for President,” he stated.

Gachagua defended his eligibility despite questions surrounding his impeachment and ongoing legal battles.

He argued that the Constitution provides for every Kenyan to run for elective office as long as legal remedies have not been exhausted.
