Major Setback for Sean MMG as ‘Nitakupanga’ Music Video is Pulled Down from YouTube

Just when it looked like Sean MMG had dropped one of the hardest Kenyan rap collaborations of the year, YouTube came in with the plot twist no one saw coming—a copyright strike on his latest music video, “Nitakupanga.”

The rapper took to his Instagram Stories early Friday morning, clearly irritated by the takedown.

“Nikama wamepanga kunimaliza,” he posted—suggesting a silent plot was out to crush his momentum.

The video, which dropped on March 20, 2025, features an all-star cast: Breeder LWSsaru, and Motif di Don. It had already racked up over 400K views and was quickly becoming a fan favorite on Gengetone playlists. That is, until the dreaded strike notification came through, limiting its reach and visibility.

 What Went Wrong?

According to Sean, the strike came without warning and targeted content belonging to a third party—but he didn’t say whether it was an issue with a beat, a sample, or maybe footage. The ambiguity has fans speculating. Was it a licensing oversight? A label disagreement? Or just algorithmic sabotage?

Either way, the timing couldn’t be worse. Sean says the video had already faced delays due to the maandamano protests, which messed with shoot days and release schedules earlier in the year.

“Now this?” he wrote, clearly fed up.

 Fans and Fellow Artists React

The news quickly trended among Kenyan music lovers, with fans flooding his DMs and comment sections offering support.

Some called on YouTube to reverse the strike, others threw shade, asking why artists keep releasing bangers before handling paperwork.

Despite the drama, Sean is staying positive.

“Please bear with me on this one. We’ll be back soon,” he assured fans.

 From Dancer to Mic Commander

Before he became one of Kenya’s rising rap forces, Sean MMG was better known as a dancer—and that stage presence still shows in every video. He’s since made a name for himself in Nairobi’s rap and Gengetone scenes, known for slick bars and massive collaborations.

As of now, no word on whether the video will be reuploaded, appealed, or sneak-released elsewhere. But one thing is clear—Sean MMG isn’t backing down anytime soon.
