Mara Sugar eliminate defending Champions Police FC, to advance to Mozzartbet Cup semi

Newly promoted FKF Premier League side  Mara Sugar advanced to the  Mozzartbet cup semi final for the 1st time in  history after knocking out defending champions Police FC 9-8, on post match penalties following 1-1 draw in regular time at the Dandora stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Mara dominated the match from kick off taking an early lead on the 11th minute through Dennis Cheruiyot forcing Police to chase the game for the better part of the 1st stanza before eventually  equalising in the 30th minute via Brian Okoth .

Both teams played cautiously in the second half and did well to send the game into post-match penalties.

The two teams converted three and missed two penalties before Clinton Kinanga missed the ninth spot kick for Police, giving Mara a crucial victory.

Police’s loss puts an end to their hopes of winning two titles this season, while Mara can dream big about earning their first continental ticket.

Mara will meet newly promoted Nairobi United in the semi-final.

The winner of the Cup will represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
