Kenyans are spending a significant portion of their day on social media, with 31% reporting daily use between 1–3 hours, according to the Media Council of Kenya’s 2024 State of Media report.
Another 26% spend 3–5 hours online, while 24% are on social platforms for over six hours a day—revealing a digitally engaged population.
Meanwhile, 16% spend 30 minutes to an hour browsing, and just 3% limit their use to under 30 minutes. The data points to a strong reliance on digital platforms for news, interaction, and entertainment.
With this increased screen time, media organisations may need to adapt their strategies to meet consumers where they are most active—online.
