KCB coach Patrick Odhiambo has rallied his charges to take every remaining Kenyan Premier League match as a final, ahead of their Saturday clash against title chasing Police FC.
Last weekend, KCB settled for a 1-1 draw against Mara Sugar, a performance the former Gor Mahia coach wants the bankers to improve on.
KCB FC will host Police FC at the SportPesa Arena in Murang’a County this Saturday, keen to bag three points despite Police’s determined charge to the title.
“We are entering a crucial phase of the season therefore; we need to be fully fit and mentally ready to take on our opponents. The weekend’s fixture is not an easy one so; we have to go there with the right mentality to win the game. The remaining matches are like finals for us, we have to take it head on,” reckoned Odhiambo.
After their recent performances in the league, KCB are currently sitting fifth on the log with 41 points behind Tusker, Police, Gor Mahia and Shabana FC who occupy the first four positions respectively.
“I’m happy because the boys are showing a strong desire to win the upcoming match. We have trained well for the game so, I know we will go out there and win the match to stand a chance of clinching our maiden Kenya Premier League title,” said an ecstatic captain Michael Mutinda.
Odhiambo is expected to make minimal changes to the squad that started the match against Mara Sugar in his first eleven. At the heart of defence, Bonphas Munyasa will start in goal, Kevin Okumu, Nahson Wekesa, Maurice Owino and Francis Oduor will make up the backline.
Midfield will be made up of captain Michael Mutinda as a number 6, Dennis Maruti at 8 and Derrick Otieno as a number 10.
The attacking force will be made up of James Kinyanjui and Patrick Otieno on the flanks while Danson Kiprono is expected to start at number 9 ahead of the regular Francis Kahiro.
The team has also received a massive boost following the return of Kenyan international defender Haniff Wesonga who had been sidelined for a while due to a knee injury.
KCB will however miss the services of Goalkeeper Coach Samuel Koko and wingback Manzur Okwaro who have joined the U-20 national side for the upcoming U20 AFCON contest in Cairo, Egypt.
