Suba West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Samson Akach has put on notice foreign wife inheritors, terming them criminal gangs who have come in the region to hide after committing criminal activities elsewhere.
Speaking at Sena village in Mfangano Island, Akatch said they have formed vetting committees from the village levels who will be vetting wife inheritors in a bid to weed out unscrupulous inheritors to avert domestic violence caused by such people
He says most of the wife inheritors are foreigners with criminal backgrounds and do not have identification documents, warning that they will not have space in the sub county.
Akatch noted that many widows suffer in the hands of inheritors as they commit to them before digging deep into their personal backgrounds.
The administrator said that if it is a must for a widow to be inherited, they should engage the entire family in a serious consultation to decide on whom to inherit her within the family circle.
Akatch warned young widows against inheritors whose identities are unknown. He cautioned that they lack the ability to provide basic needs to foster families but only consume the available resources and walk away after causing harm to the widows’ families.
