The National Government, in collaboration with Busia County, has intensified efforts to combat malaria in the region using drones to spray pesticides over waterlogged areas and forests regions that have long been hotspots for mosquito breeding.

Speaking during the launch of the third phase of the malaria combat campaign in Busia County, Dr. Willis Akhwale, Secretary of the National Malaria Control Council emphasized that Busia County’s unique challenges particularly its high water table and numerous springs contribute to its elevated malaria rates.

He observed that drone technology has already made strides in reducing infection rates.

Dr. Akhwale further urged residents to participate actively in the fight against malaria by using treated nets and seek prompt medical attention if infected.
