West Pokot Pokot governor Simon Kachapin today received a diplomatic delegation from the Embassy and Government of Ireland, led by His Excellency Neale Richmond, the minister of state for International Development and Diaspora, and Ireland’s Ambassador to Kenya, His Excellency Caitriona Ingoldsby, for an official meeting at the governor’s residence in Kapenguria town.

During the meeting, Governor Kachapin extended a warm welcome to the Irish officials and highlighted that their visit to the county would help to strengthen partnership with Ireland to advance climate action and peacebuilding efforts in the county in areas prone to conflict due to scarcity of resources.

Kachapin acknowledged the long-standing cordial relationship between Kenya and Ireland, noting that the county has been a beneficiary of the positive bilateral partnership.

He mentioned that climate change had significantly impacted the region, leading to conflicts due to natural resource scarcity, such as water and pasture for livestock.

Kachapin expressed gratitude for the Irish government’s projects in the region, which have helped mitigate the climate challenges and reduce conflicts.

He also praised the transformative impact of the initiatives on the livelihoods of residents, highlighting the significant benefits brought about by Ireland’s support.

In response, Neale Richmond, stated that West Pokot is a key strategic partner in Kenya.

He said he was in the county to inspect various projects funded by the Irish government, which are aimed at addressing the impacts of climate change in the region.

Richmond highlighted that the partnership between West Pokot and Ireland would continue to strengthen both economically and politically.

He praised the strong relationship between the people of West Pokot and Ireland, noting the positive results from numerous projects launched in the county that have helped to combat climate effects and promote peace and stability.

Richmond emphasized that the Irish government is committed to ensuring that the development projects continue to benefit as many people as possible.

He also promised a stronger partnership with the county government, indicating that Irish officials would continue to visit the region to explore further opportunities.

He lauded the Kenyan government for its warm hospitality and continued collaboration.
