The President of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Philemon Yang is set to visit Kenya from February 18 to 22, 2025.

According to a press release from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, the visit aims to bolster Kenya’s role in global diplomacy and strengthen the country’s relationship with the United Nations.

During his stay, Yang will hold high-level meetings with President William Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and other senior government officials.

The discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation between Kenya and the United Nations, reinforcing Kenya’s pivotal role in multilateral diplomacy, and advancing key global and regional priorities.

“The President of the General Assembly will outline his vision and priorities during his tenure, particularly in the areas of peace and security, sustainable development, financing for development, digitalization, and strengthening international cooperation.”

In addition, Yang is scheduled to deliver a public lecture and meet with members of the UN community, as well as key stakeholders from the academic, policy, innovation, and private sectors.

He will also visit Nairobi’s green spaces and wildlife conservation areas.
