KCSE Results 2024: Mbita High School Shines with As

In a preliminary report on the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, Mbita High School led in Homa Bay county with 18 candidates getting A plain grades. Mbita Boys High School’s 2024 KCSE candidates outperformed those from other schools in Homa Bay county. How did Mbita High perform? The top student, Geoffrey Odhiambo Ogonga, earned an A with 84 points, followed by Owino Rawlings Onyango with 83 points. Vincent Ouma Auma, Moses Ondieki Micah, and Nsengiyumva Irokoze Charles got 82 points each.  Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Principal Kennedy Ojijo attributed the strong performance to teamwork, discipline, and the motivation of both staff and students.

He noted that the school has implemented new strategies to help candidates excel, achieving a mean grade of 9.2 in the previous results. “With the same strategies, you can not achieve good results. So, we had to update our strategies, which include staff motivation and encouraging teamwork,” Ojijo noted. How other schools performed in Homa Bay in 2024 KCSE Asumbi National School in Rangwe sub-county produced top candidates; Quinseley Akinyi Oyugi, Davis Wonderful, and Cicilia Dima, each earning an A plain grade. They were followed by Terry Aoko, Sheryle Momanyi, Mauka Marynnah, and Sheryl Achieng, who all got A-(minus). At Agoro Sare High School in Rachuonyo North, their top candidate, Isac Otieno, had an A (plain). Other candidates Joseph Odhiambo, Alvan Harold, Owino Kelly, and Denzel Okuthe all got A-(minus). Other school heads, however, expressed frustration over internet issues that delayed the download of results from the KNEC portals.

Charles Odede, the principal of Akwakra Secondary School in Rachuonyo North sub-county, said that they managed to download only three results in two hours. “There is a lot of anxiety from teachers, students, and even parents, yet the results are unable to be downloaded faster. The government ought to have given us several options to choose from,” Odede decried. Another principal said he had received only six results, all of which were eligible for university admission
