Jacinta Anyango, the grieving mother of 12-year-old Kennedy Onyango, who was tragically shot during anti-government protests in Rongai, has opened up about her anguish. Jacinta Anyango maintained her calls for justice for her son. Despite President William Ruto’s public pledge to reach out and offer her an explanation, Anyango revealed that she has not heard from the government since the devastating death of her son. In an emotional interview with KTN News, Anyango recounted Ruto’s promise made during a live interview with journalists.
The president, when asked about Kennedy’s death, assured the nation that he would personally contact the grieving mother. While on an interactive X space engagement with Gen Zs, the head of state also claimed to have reached out to the mum to plan a meeting. “I saw him being asked by journalists, and he said, ‘If the child has died, I will call the parent. I will reach out to the mother and speak with her.’ To this day, as we speak now, he has not done that,” Jacinta said, tears welling in her eyes. Despite Ruto’s assurances in June 2024 that he would meet with her and explain the circumstances surrounding her son’s untimely death.
Why was Ruto to meet Anyango The president’s words during a roundtable interview broadcast from the state house had promised that as a parent himself, he would ensure justice for Kennedy and offer clarity on the incident. “I as president, I will make sure that finally, I will give her an explanation of what really happened and make sure we bring this to a situation where like myself who have children she too her child can be accounted for,” Ruto had stated. Anyango’s pain is compounded by the slow progress of justice for her son. She shared how the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) requested her to provide evidence, yet she can only offer her son’s lifeless body as proof of the tragedy.
