Police in Nyatike, Migori County have flushed out from hiding a medical practitioner who was on the run after allegedly sedating and sexually assaulting his patient.
The doctor, Mr Tobias Wara Obutu, is alleged to have committed the offence on December 26 at Frontal Medical Clinic in Muhuru Bay town.
According to Nyatike OCPD John Musili, the victim had gone to the clinic to seek medical assistance when the doctor sedated and sexually assaulted her.
“The medic diagnosed her and said she needed more blood. He took her to a private room and injected her. She became unconscious thereafter. He then sexually assaulted her and disappeared,” said Mr Musili.
After the act, Mr Musili said, the suspect fled, leaving his victim unconscious, naked and alone in the private room.
“When the woman came to, she realised she was naked and alone in the room. She rushed to another hospital which confirmed her fears that she had been sexually assaulted. She reported to the police and a manhunt for the suspect was launched,” said Mr Musili.
The victim is still recovering at a local hospital.
“She is really tormented psychologically after the ordeal. She does not speak much,” said one of the victim’s relatives.
The suspect, who was arrested on Thursday, is being held at the Nyatike Police Station pending arraignment.
The medical clinic was closed down after residents held protests in wake of the sexual assault allegations.
