| Cheruiyot Kirui died at MT Everest |
Kenyan banker Cheruiyot Kirui was confirmed dead near the peak of Mt.Everest on Thursday May 23 hours after being declared missing. In Cheruiyot’s post he revealed how no African has ever gotten to the summit of Mt.Everest. A social media post made by Cheruiyot revealing why he wanted to climb Mt.Everest has emerged. Why did Cheruyoit climb Mt.Everest? In a May 17 social media post, the banker outlined a series of uncertainties he harbored about climbing the mountain. However, these fears did not deter him, as he had compelling reasons aspiring him to reach the summit. The reasons outlined in his post include: Firstly, Cheruiyot stated that he was bored and inactive in his base camp for 10 days, thus revealing his excitement about climbing Mt.Everest. He further stated that no African has been able to get to the summit of Everest hinting at wanting to be the first. “So far 2% of Everests summits have been done without supplement oxygen (no African yet)..can we squeeze into this group? Let’s see how it unfolds,” he said. He further detailed in a facebook post his attendance at a celebration held in honor of successful summits. He spotlighted a Kazakh event commemorating the first Kazakh woman to summit Everest, supported by a Kenyan armband hinting more at his desire to get to the summit. ” Here for once my nonexistent dance moves placed me in the top 50%, heck make it 90%.” Cheruiyot Kirui found dead The banker attached to the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) had disappeared after scaling 8,000 metres above the world’s highest mountain. Rescuer guides deployed by his host expedition company found his body hours after he was reported missing. Kirui was in the company of a sherpa with whom they lost radio communication with the host expedition company. He was scaling under Seven Summit Treks, a Nepali commercial adventure operator. A 48-year-old Romanian climber on the same trail who was also scaling without supplemental oxygen was found dead earlier inside his tent.
