Possible Reasons Zari Allowed Her Son to Get Baptised

Ugandan socialite, actress, and businesswoman Zari Hassan recently made headlines after baptizing her firstborn son, Pinto Tiale, despite being a Muslim.

Since baptism is typically a Christian practice, Zari’s decision has sparked curiosity and raised questions about her motivations.

One possible reason for Zari’s choice could be her desire to honour her family’s mixed religious background. Coming from a family with both Christian and Muslim influences, Zari may have wanted to offer her son the freedom to choose his own spiritual path.

Her late husband, Ivan Semwanga, the father of Pinto, was Christian, which may have played a role in her decision to blend both Christian and Muslim traditions for their child.

Additionally, as a public figure who has always emphasized the importance of family, Zari might have seen the baptism as a way to celebrate her son’s milestones in a manner that transcends religious boundaries.

Public reaction has been mixed. Some, particularly from her Muslim community, have expressed confusion, viewing the baptism as contradictory to Islamic teachings.

Others, however, have appreciated her approach, praising her for embracing both cultures and allowing her son to experience different traditions. Many people are also celebrating Pinto’s entry into the Christian faith.

As a prominent figure in East Africa, Zari’s actions often prompt larger discussions about societal relations, personal freedom, and the intersection of culture and religion.

By choosing to baptize her child, Zari challenges traditional expectations, encouraging others to prioritize personal and family harmony over strict religious doctrines.
