Detectives have today arrested three members of a wanted criminal gang terrorising Meru residents.

According to a statement by the Directorate Of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the trio was arrested after a sting operation to tame the spate of violent robberies in the area.

The trio which includes Narman Kioo Bariu, Stephen Mathenge Njoroge and Mathew Koome are accused of committing various offences such as robbery, attempted defilement, housebreaking and murder.

Detectives noted that the ring leader of the group managed to escape.

“Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau detectives indicate that Jeremy and Narman met previously at Meru GK prison as remandees for robbery with violence and murder charges respectively, and have been out on bond,” the statement reads in parts.

The most recent incident involving the trio and five others occurred on April 24, 2023, at the time, the suspects allegedly attacked pump attendants, tied them with ropes and beat them up before robbing them at gunpoint.

They then made away with Ksh57,000 and a safe box with an unknown amount of money.

“Later on in the morning of May 14, the gang accosted a bodaboda rider at Makutano, Imenti North in a botched attempt to rob his motorbike. Having failed to cooperate, they shot at him frenziedly hitting his left arm and damaging the bike. He luckily survived,” DCI added.

Detectives recovered two motor vehicles used to commit the offences.

The DCI has appealed to members of the public to steer clear of the ring leader and the rest of the gang members since they are armed and dangerous.

In the same breath, the detectives have asked members of the public to report any information involving the ring leader.    BY K24 NEWS
