Massive fire damages building in Rongai’s Mbagathi Estate as residents blame emergency teams for slow response

A major fire broke out at a building in Mbagathi Estate, behind Maasai Mall in Rongai, Kajiado County, on Tuesday, October 27, with the blaze causing extensive damage to the rooftop.

Footage from the scene showed the fire engulfing the upper section of the building, with subsequent images indicating that the rooftop had been extensively damaged.

The fire was eventually extinguished after emergency responders and water bowsers arrived at the scene. However, the cause of the incident remains unknown, while the number of casualties, if any, has yet to be confirmed.

The extent of the damage to the building and property inside is also yet to be established.

Witnesses expressed frustration over the emergency response, questioning the time it took for firefighters to arrive as the fire continued to spread.

One witness voiced concern that the building could be completely destroyed before the fire brigade reached the scene, criticising the county’s handling of emergencies.

Despite the scale of the blaze, reports indicated that the fire did not spread to neighbouring buildings, which are located close to the affected structure.

Authorities are yet to release a comprehensive assessment of the damage or provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident has renewed concerns among residents over emergency preparedness and the speed of response to fires in densely populated areas
