APS Bomet coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo is counting on the club’s loyal supporters to inspire his players when they take on defending champions Gor Mahia in a SportPesa League clash at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on Saturday.
The Law Enforcers will be seeking their first win of the 2026/27 campaign after opening their season with a goalless draw against Mathare United. They face a Gor Mahia side fresh from a 4-2 victory over Murang’a SEAL at Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday.
Omollo said the fans played a significant role in the team’s late-season revival last term and believes their backing will be equally important as APS Bomet seek to challenge the league’s established sides.
“Our supporters have been a key pillar in this team, and they really pushed us last season to ensure we remained in the league,” he said.
The Bomet-based side finished 10th last season after a strong run of results that included an 11-match unbeaten streak and seven consecutive victories. Omollo wants his players to carry that fighting spirit into the new campaign as they prepare to test record Kenyan champions.
“We will equally heavily depend on them this season and also give our all on the pitch to ensure that they keep coming and give them the joy they deserve,” he said.
Gor Mahia, meanwhile, arrive with confidence after beginning their title defence with an entertaining win over Murang’a SEAL. Shariff Musa scored twice, while Alpha Chris Onyango and Jackson Dwang were also on target as Charles Akonnor’s men collected maximum points.
However, conceding twice late in the match exposed defensive lapses that APS Bomet could look to exploit. The hosts will need to be clinical in front of goal if they’re to turn their home advantage into a win.
They sit atop the standings with three points and a +2 goal difference while APS Bomet are 12th after picking up a point in their opener. The two sides have split their previous two top-flight meetings, making Saturday’s encounter an intriguing contest. APS Bomet claimed a memorable 4-1 victory over K’Ogalo on November 25, 2025, before the champions responded with a 2-1 win on February 15 this year.
That history offers the hosts encouragement, although they will face a side whose attacking threat was evident in the opening round. APS Bomet are likely to adopt a compact 4-2-3-1 formation, with two holding midfielders tasked with shielding the defence and disrupting Gor Mahia’s build-up before launching counter-attacks. The hosts will also need to remain organised when defending against the champions’ wide players.
Gor Mahia are expected to favour their attacking 4-3-3 formation, relying on movement across the frontline and pressure in the final third to stretch the home side. Omollo’s familiarity with K’Ogalo adds another layer to the contest.
Having previously coached the club, he understands the challenges of facing the champions, and his players remain disciplined throughout the match to succeed.
For APS Bomet, the challenge is to combine the defensive solidity shown against Mathare United with greater attacking purpose. Gor Mahia will be seeking another win to maintain their early momentum in the title race.
