Toyota Prado recovered in Moyale, two arrested

Detectives in Moyale, Marsabit County, have arrested two suspects and recovered a Toyota Prado believed to have been fraudulently acquired during an intelligence-led operation in Moyale town.

The detectives intercepted a white Toyota Prado and arrested the two occupants, who were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the operation.

Preliminary checks conducted by the officers established that the vehicle’s chassis number did not correspond with the registration details held by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The discrepancy raised suspicion that the vehicle may have been tampered with or fraudulently registered.

Detectives then conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, during which they recovered an empty pistol magazine and a pistol holster. The items were reportedly concealed inside a glove compartment.

Several rolls of bhang were also recovered from the vehicle during the search. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the recovery followed an intelligence-led operation aimed at disrupting suspected criminal activities within Moyale town.

The two suspects remain in police custody as detectives continue with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s ownership, registration and suspected acquisition.

They are expected to be arraigned in court once the necessary investigations and processing are completed.

The recovery comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to identify and intercept vehicles suspected to have been stolen, fraudulently acquired or unlawfully registered.

The DCI has also urged members of the public to share information that could assist in the prevention and investigation of crime.

Members of the public can report suspected criminal activities anonymously through the DCI toll-free number 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

The agency has encouraged members of the public to provide information without fear, assuring them that reports made through the designated channels will be treated confidentially.
