Kenyan content creator and actress Fao Shyshy has sparked a conversation about relationships after sharing a message encouraging people to reconsider their assumptions about those closest to them.
Fao, who has built a following through social media content and acting, shared her thoughts on her Instagram Stories.
The actress, who has also appeared in the popular Kenyan series A Nurse Toto, has frequently spoken about relationships, dating and personal experiences with her online audience.
Fao Shyshy on assumptions in relationships
In her latest message, Fao described people as “mirrors”, suggesting that the beliefs and expectations people carry can influence how they perceive those around them.
She argued that people sometimes unconsciously look for behaviour that confirms what they already believe about someone.
“People are mirrors. Every person in your life, without exception, is reflecting your own beliefs, assumptions, and expectations to you,” Fao wrote.
She went on to use relationships as an example, particularly the fear of infidelity.
“If you believe that someone is dishonest, they will prove you right. If you assume your spouse is unfaithful, they will confirm that assumption,” she said.
Fao also extended the message to friendships, saying that people who constantly fear betrayal may end up interpreting situations through that fear.
‘Expect the best from a person’
The content creator encouraged her followers to let go of old assumptions and approach their relationships with less fear.
According to Fao, deliberately expecting better from someone could change how the relationship develops.
“If you drop the old assumptions, let go of the fear, and deliberately expect the best from a person, they will reflect that change to you,” she added.
She also touched on success, urging people not to view another person’s achievements as a threat to their own.
“When you understand that there is infinite abundance, infinite success and infinite opportunities, you stop fighting,” she wrote.
Fao’s past relationship experiences
Fao’s comments come after she has previously been open about some of her own experiences in romantic relationships.
In 2023, the actress spoke about her breakup with fellow content creator Dzaddy Amore during an interview with SPM Buzz. She said she had experienced repeated infidelity during the relationship.
Amore later acknowledged cheating on Fao, although he gave a different account of the number of times it happened, saying it was 17 times. Their relationship had already drawn considerable online attention, particularly after Amore proposed to Fao.
Fao has continued to share her thoughts about modern dating with her followers. In January 2026, she also spoke about the kind of affection she hoped to receive from a future partner, saying she valued small gestures of care.
