Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has condoled with People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua following the death of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua.
In a message shared on Monday, Uhuru described the late Mwalimu Karua as a man whose life was defined by principled leadership, dedication to education, strong character and love for his family.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Hon. Martha Karua and the entire Karua family following the passing of her beloved father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua,” Uhuru said.
He said Mwalimu Karua’s values, wisdom and guidance had left an enduring legacy that would continue through his children, grandchildren and the many people whose lives he touched.
“At this difficult time, my thoughts and prayer is that the Karua family finds strength, comfort and peace in the memories they shared with him and in the enduring legacy he leaves behind,” he said.
Karua announced her father’s death on Sunday, saying she and her siblings had spent time with him at his home in Kirinyaga earlier that day.
She said they sang his favourite gospel hymn during the visit, unaware that it would be their final song together.
“On my way back to Nairobi, I received the news that my beloved father had breathed his last,” Karua said.
She described Mwalimu Karua as a principled man, teacher and strong believer in character, education and doing what is right, while remembering him above all as a loving, steady and present father.
Karua said her father had supported her throughout her life, including during her school days, legal career and public service.
She said she would miss his voice, counsel and encouragement, but would carry with her the lessons he taught her and the love he gave her.
President William Ruto has also mourned Mwalimu Karua, describing him as a dedicated teacher who devoted his life to teaching and service and touched generations through his work.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and former Attorney General Justin Muturi were also among leaders who sent messages of condolence to Karua and her family.
