Kabras Sugar will field a young side at the Kampala International Sevens Championship on October 3-4, coach Ntabeni Dukisa has revealed.
The decision has been informed by the involvement of the millers’ first-team players with the Morans and Shujaa ahead of the Africa Cup Sevens on October 3-4 in Mauritius and the Safari Sevens on October 9–11 at Nyayo Stadium.
Dukisa said the Kampala tournament will give the club’s emerging players an opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition.
“We have young talent coming through and want to throw them in the deep end against top-quality opposition over the two days,” said Dukisa.
He will rely on Ronald Wangila, Victor Otieno, Brian Kiptanui, Chrispine Otieno and Adrian Khwesa, with established player Griffin Chao providing experience and guidance.
Dukisa expects the tournament to lay the foundation for next year’s National Sevens Series.
“We are looking to build for next season with the players who will be going to Uganda and get the exposure and have them play for the main team next season,” noted Dukisa.
Kabras face a stern test in the two-day event, where they will take on Ugandan giants Black Pirates, Heathens, Buffaloes and Kobs RFC, as well as Emerging Cranes.
The Kakamega-based side will also renew rivalries with Kenyan sides Menengai Oilers, Strathmore and Nondies, while South African All Stars are also expected to feature.
Dukisa expects a competitive tournament but is targeting the title.
“The Ugandan sides are going to be tough playing at home, but we are riding momentum from finishing second at the National Sevens Circuit. We will be going flat out to win and make a mark in this tournament,” he said.
Meanwhile, Morans have been drawn alongside Madagascar, Namibia and Réunion in the Africa Sevens Series, scheduled for October 3-4 in Mauritius.
Pool A features defending champions South Africa, Burkina Faso, Egypt and hosts Mauritius.
Running alongside the men’s competition, a four-nation Women’s Invitational Tournament will feature national sides from South Africa, Réunion, Morocco and Mauritius.
The 2026 Africa Sevens Series will feature a restructured format delivered through two complementary competitions following the postponement of the continental event originally scheduled for June in Mauritius.
