According to the World Health Organization, the observance serves to raise awareness and drive global action toward safer clinical environments.
The 2026 campaign is defined by the theme “Safe care for noncommunicable diseases” and is backed by the official slogan, “Safe care for life!”.
Alongside this broader focus, the initiative emphasises preventing harm in pediatric and newborn care, shining a light on specific safety risks associated with childbirth, postnatal care, and diagnostics.
To improve overall healthcare outcomes, the initiative calls for actionable steps including the early recognition of clinical deterioration and the promotion of safe medication and immunisation practices.
