Kenya Police FC have overhauled their squad as they seek to challenge for the SportPesa League title and Mozzart Bet Cup after a trophyless 2025/26 season.
The Law Enforcers made 29 player movements during the transfer window, signing 11 players and releasing 18 as head coach Nicholas Muyoti reshapes his team for the new campaign.
The scale of the changes reflects the club’s determination to compete for major honours, with Muyoti well aware of the pressure that comes with the job.
“I came here knowing they want to win the league. They don’t want patience—they want results—and that’s why I’m here,” Muyoti said.
Police have strengthened several areas of the squad, with the new arrivals expected to provide greater depth and competition for places. The changes are meant to help the team close the gap on champions Gor Mahia.
“We have brought in players who can heighten competition in every department and help us achieve our goals,” he said. The recruitment drive has also come with the departure of several established players. Harambee Stars’ defenders Abud Omar and Daniel Sakari are among those who have left, alongside striker Elvis Rupia, Marvin Nabwire and Duke Abuya.
Muyoti said he understood the circumstances behind the exits and wished the departing players well. “It is sad that we have lost some very good players. But I think if they get a better place, a better offer, I think we bless them, and we pray for them,” he said after Police drew 0-0 with Gor Mahia in a pre-season friendly at Police Sacco Grounds.
The coach, however, believes the departures have been addressed through a combination of new signings and players returning from loan spells.
“We have got some replacements. Yusuf Mainge has returned from Nairobi United. He was on loan, and he is back as a right-back,” Muyoti said.
Mainge is expected to provide an option at right-back, while Levin Odhiambo has been brought in to strengthen the opposite flank. Hernest Malonga also remains in the squad as the technical bench assesses its defensive options. “And then, of course, we have a left-back. We have brought Levin (Odhiambo),” Muyoti added.
The changes are expected to create greater competition for starting places, something the coach believes will benefit the team as the season progresses. “I think it will be a very competitive position and I am really interested to see what they are going to do,” he said.
Police are also chasing redemption after surrendering the league title to Gor Mahia and losing the Mozzart Bet Cup final to Tusker last season. Muyoti wants his players to respond to those setbacks by competing for both domestic trophies. “We will fight to the very end because every point matters when you are competing for the championship,” he said.
The team has used pre-season matches to assess the new squad and work on combinations. Police also won the inaugural Elite Pre-Season Cup before the campaign. Their league opener, however, remains on hold amid the dispute over promotion and relegation regulations that has delayed the start of the 2026/27 season.
Police are scheduled to travel to face Migori Youth once the league gets the green light, giving Muyoti additional time to work with his reshaped squad.
The immediate task will be turning the extensive changes made during the transfer window into a settled side capable of delivering results.
