Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino hosted content creation group Heha Movers at his campaign office. Following the engagement, the lawmaker publicly acknowledged the group’s brilliance.
Owino shared a social media post of the creators ‘helping him to evict somebody from City Hall.’ The content quickly gained traction across social platforms. On Instagram alone, the post generated over 252,000 views and 11,000 likes.
Integration into Campaign Operations
During the meeting, Owino officially welcomed the creators to his office facility. He described the venue as his central hub for campaign operations.
“Leo tulikuwa tu hapa ofisi tukipiga story na Heha Movers. These people are brilliant,” Babu Owino said.
He said he intends to involve the content group in his political team going forward.
The MP highlighted that Nairobi offers various job and business opportunities for young citizens. He stated that his primary focus is to generate viable prospects for the youth.
“Hii Heha Movers ni kitu serious sana, it will depend on how you manage it. This is a job that you have, the name has gone ahead of it’s owners,” he told the group.
Rejecting Political Exploitation
Owino spoke firmly against the historical exploitation of young people in politics. He observed that politicians frequently use youth to put up posters, assist in campaigns, or serve as goons.
He advised young people to stop accepting subordinate roles during political cycles. He urged the youth to demand seats at leadership tables or disrupt existing political arrangements.
“I usually tell the youth, if you can’t be on the table, break that table,” he advised.
Economic Challenges Facing Youth
The lawmaker outlined severe economic difficulties confronting young workers in urban areas. He noted that many college graduates and trained artisans remain without employment.
Owino drew attention to financial burdens in the boda boda transport sector. He explained that young operators pay initial deposits of Ksh 20,000 to Ksh 30,000. The total loan cost accumulates to between Ksh 270,000 and Ksh 300,000.
Drivers pay Ksh 400 to Ksh 500 daily, leaving insufficient funds for rent, food, and basic necessities. He warned that economic hardship leads to mental health issues and suicide among young people.
Call for Unity and Mindset Shift
Owino encouraged young people to adopt a positive mindset to navigate social hurdles. He stressed that attitude directly influences personal growth.
He urged young citizens to stay united and utilise their numerical strength, intelligence, and age. Owino shared an analogy of buffaloes protecting themselves from lions. He explained thata single buffalo isolated from the herd is killed by lions, but a united herd repels predators.
