Kenyan musician Fidel Shammah, popularly known as Charisma, has offered fans a lighter glimpse into his life away from music, opening up about his eating habits during a rapid-fire interview with media personality Kalondu Musyimi.
The singer was asked a series of quick questions, with the conversation moving from his music career to his preferences at the dinner table.
One of the questions centred on food he cannot eat.
Charisma revealed that njahi, also known as black beans, is the one food he avoids.
‘Chakula ya Paka’
In his characteristically playful response, Charisma described njahi as “chakula ya paka”, loosely translating to “cat food”.

His comment added a humorous moment to the interview, particularly given that njahi is a familiar food in many Kenyan households.
Njahi is among the traditional foods that continue to feature in Kenya’s food culture, alongside dishes such as ugali, chicken, githeri and various vegetables.
Chicken, Wet Fry and Ugali
The Sina Noma hitmaker said his favourite meal is chicken wet fry served with ugali.
Wet fry is a popular Kenyan cooking style in which meat is cooked with ingredients such as tomatoes, onions and other spices to produce a rich sauce.
Charisma Says He Can Cook
The rapid-fire session also revealed another side of the musician.
Charisma said he does cook, rather than leaving all the kitchen duties to someone else.
He went further and identified chicken wet fry and ugali as the meals he cooks best.
That means his favourite meal is also the dish he believes he prepares most successfully.
Chicken wet fry and ugali are Charisma’s go-to meal — and the dish he says he cooks best.
