From Newsrooms To Red Carpets: How Kenyan Hosts Are Shaping Fashion Events

For years, Kenyan media personalities have been known for breaking news, conducting celebrity interviews, and keeping audiences entertained on radio and television.

But increasingly, their microphones are moving beyond studios and newsrooms to one of the most glamorous spaces in entertainment—the red carpet.
The latest personality to take up the role is Kalondu Musyimi, who has been named the red-carpet host for the Denri Africa Runway Fashion Event 2026. Kalondu, who recently won Top African Showbiz Reporter of the Year, is expected to bring her experience interviewing celebrities and covering entertainment to the fashion event scheduled for August 29.

From Asking Questions to Creating Moments

Red-carpet hosting requires more than simply standing in front of a camera and asking celebrities what they are wearing. Hosts have to keep conversations flowing, react quickly, understand fashion and entertainment, and create the memorable moments that end up dominating social media after an event.
Kalondu, for instance, has built her profile around entertainment interviews and showbiz reporting. Her move onto the Denri Africa Runway red carpet represents a natural extension of the work she has already been doing in the media space.

Claudia Naisabwa Has Already Walked This Path

Claudia Naisabwa has become one of the most recognizable Kenyan personalities associated with major entertainment events.
In January 2026, Claudia co-hosted the AFRIMA red carpet in Lagos alongside Nigerian media personality Enioluwa Adeoluwa, where the pair welcomed some of Africa’s biggest music and entertainment stars ahead of the awards ceremony. Claudia has also previously handled red-carpet duties at the Kalasha International Film and TV Awards alongside Fareed Khimani.
Her transition shows how entertainment personalities can build careers around more than traditional television or radio presenting.

Amina Abdi Rabar Proves the Power of Broadcasters on Stage

Another familiar name in the Kenyan media industry is Amina Abdi Rabar. Amina has hosted major entertainment events and represented Kenya on some of Africa’s biggest entertainment platforms.
In 2020, she co-hosted the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards alongside Nigerian presenter IK Osakioduwa.
She also co-hosted the 2026 Kalasha International Film & TV Awards with Lotan Salapei, another example of Kenyan media personalities taking center stage at major industry events.
Amina’s career demonstrates how a strong television and radio background can open doors into major entertainment events across the continent.

A Growing Demand for On-Camera Charisma

The rise of social media has changed what audiences expect from an entertainment event. A red-carpet interview can now become a TikTok clip, an Instagram Reel, an X conversation, or a viral moment within minutes.

That means event organizers need hosts who understand not only how to interview celebrities, but also how to create content that audiences will want to watch and share.
For Kenyan media personalities, red-carpet hosting also offers an opportunity to build their individual brands outside their regular programs. Instead of simply reporting about celebrities, they get to interact with them, ask the questions audiences want answered, and become part of the spectacle themselves.
