Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has revealed that he keeps more than 15 phones in his office, saying the devices help him manage the thousands of calls and messages he receives daily from Kenyans seeking different forms of assistance.
Speaking during an interview while showcasing the collection, Sonko displayed rows of phones neatly arranged on a desk, prompting the interviewer to liken the setup to a call centre.
The former governor confirmed that the devices are all operational and play a central role in handling communication from members of the public.
Asked why he owns so many phones, Sonko said the volume of calls and messages he receives every day makes it difficult to rely on a single handset.
“I receive thousands of calls and messages every day from people with different problems and different needs,” Sonko said.
He explained that while most of the phones are used to communicate with members of the public, one number is reserved exclusively for close family members.
“I have a special number strictly for family,” he said.
According to Sonko, the remaining lines are dedicated to interacting with Kenyans from different parts of the country who contact him for a wide range of reasons, including requests for assistance and other personal matters.
He described the number of daily calls as “countless”, adding that the communication extends beyond voice calls to include large volumes of text messages.
The latest revelation adds to Sonko’s well-known affinity for premium gadgets and luxury technology, which has frequently attracted public attention over the years.
Earlier this year, the former Nairobi governor made headlines after purchasing Samsung’s rare Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone, becoming one of a limited number of people globally to own the premium device.
At the time, Sonko disclosed that he had acquired unit number 119 out of only 500 devices reportedly manufactured worldwide.
The handset is regarded as one of Samsung’s most exclusive foldable smartphones due to its limited production and advanced design.
Unlike conventional smartphones, the Galaxy Z TriFold features a triple-folding design that allows it to transform from a compact handset into a tablet-sized display through a dual-hinge mechanism.
