King Kaka has shared the story behind his cooking show, explaining that it was inspired by his own struggles in the kitchen and his decision to learn in full view of his online audience.
“So how I started cooking, nilikua naingia home najipata sina food alafu shops zinafungwa around 10 pm na nimeingia midnight.”
Midnight Hunger Pangs and Public Learning
Speaking during an episode of the Mic Cheque Podcast, the rapper said the idea came about because he found himself struggling to cook alone. Instead of learning privately, he decided to turn the experience into content that people could follow on social media.

According to King Kaka, the concept of the show revolves around someone who genuinely does not know how to cook. Each episode features a guest, but neither he nor the audience knows what meal will be prepared until filming begins.
“So nikasema since I’m struggling kupika let me do it in front of everyone. So basically my cooking show is about a guy who doesn’t know how to cook, since kila mtu ako na cooking show anajua kupika.”
The Element of Surprise on Set

He explained that before the cameras start rolling, his production team hands the guest a card containing the name of the meal he is expected to cook. The guest then reveals the dish to him on camera, making it the first time he also learns what he will be preparing.
“So the whole idea ni guest anacome anapewa card na team anaambiwa ambia king akupikie hii. Mimi nakua surprised saa hio, and I have to cook saa hio.”
Recipes vs. Reality: Studio Debates
During the conversation, Mic Cheque Podcast co-host Saddam joked about the show’s concept, saying that anyone who can read should be able to cook. He argued that recipes already contain step-by-step instructions, suggesting that following them should make preparing meals straightforward.
“Kama unajua kusoma unaeza pika, juu ukiambiwa put salt, kwani utaeka sukari.”

The exchange prompted laughter in the studio, with King Kaka maintaining that the show is centred on someone who is still learning and discovering different recipes as the episodes progress.
During a recent episode of the Mic Cheque Podcast, host Chaxxy asked King Kaka about the new things happening in his life. In response, the rapper revealed that he had started cooking before explaining how the experience inspired him to launch a social media cooking show.
